Antique furniture needs special care and attention and so do accessories like an Antique table lamp. Lamps add a lot of functional value and appeal to a room but we should understand that over time they collect dust, dirt and are prone to other maintenance related problems. This not only hampers the lamp's ability to provide adequate light but also steals the charm away from your home decor. No one would want to look at older used and dirty antique lamp. Therefore in order to keep your lights elegance and beauty intact you have to follow a strict maintenance routine. The routine can be twofold. One routine that is needed is weekly dusting of the lamp and another- polishing, which is followed quarterly or annually.
For the living room, choose a lamp shade made of fabric or slightly opaque paper to provide warm glow in the room. If to be placed near a television, an opaque shade can be chosen to reduce glare. For a modern look, drum shades may be used and if traditional look is preferred, conical shades are recommended. For reading purposes, the lamp's bulb must be at least 60 Watts; a dimmer or three0way bulb can be used for modulating the brightness.
Contemporary lamps are a combination of the traditional and modern design aesthetic. The contemporary lamp favors the clean lines and minimal ornamentation of the modern lamps, but it utilises materials and methods that are more familiar. The contemporary lamp does not try to make a statement about cutting-edge technology or design the way that a modern one does.
Creating the lamp base is probably the most enjoyable part of the lamp making process. If you've chosen a clear container such as a wine bottle or canning jar, you can fill it with decorative materials. Marbles, pebbles, sand art, seashells, dried beans or buttons would all be good choices. Heavier materials will help to add weight to the lamp base, making it more stable. If you've chosen an opaque container, you can fill it with pebbles, sand, lead weights, coins or other heavy materials. If you are using a lamp kit which is designed to simply plug into the base, you can fill it before wiring it. However, if you are using individual components you may need to do the wiring step before filling the base.
